DES works in co-ordination with the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO), and Central Statistics / Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India for conducting various surveys, studies and census. The Directorate conducts adhoc studies as per the requirement of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India. Reports published and data compiled by the Directorate are very useful to various Government Departments/Agencies, Administrators, Policy Makers, Bankers, Research Scholars, General Public and a host of others.
Directorate comprises of Statisticians and Economists mostly, is headed by a Director and supported by Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, Statistical Officers, Deputy Statistical Officers, Assistant Statistical Officers and the ministerial staff. The staff is spread across the districts and sub-district level helping the systematic organization of statistical and socio-economic model building.
Directorate operates as a 3-tier system viz. Head Quarters, District level and Mandal level. It has total staff strength of about 1084. Computational activities are shared between the district offices, headed by Chief Planning Officers (CPOs) in the cadre of Joint Director and the Head Office, headed by the Director. At Mandal level, an Assistant Statistical Officer helps Mandal Revenue officer to collect and compile the necessary data.
